Mumbai, Aug 17: “Social welfare organizations had to strive for the progress of society and were also actively involved in realizing the aspirations of the community. The sacrifices of veterans in building a community organization have to be informed to the new generation of youngsters in order to inspire the latter to carry on the good work,” said Tonse Jayakrishna A Shetty, founder, Jayasrikrishna Parisara Premi Samiti (NGO).
He was speaking during the scholarship distribution programme organized by Navi Mumbai’s regional cultural committee of Devadiga Sangh at Devadiga Bhavan auditorium, Nerul, on Monday August 15.
Shetty also presented a cash award of Rs 10,000 to Shubha Kotian Chembur, who was a topper in the recently held SSC examinations (Kannada medium) in the entire state, besides honouring Jayanti Raghu Moily and Ashok T Devadiga, who were appointed Special Executive Officers (SEOs) on the same occasion.
Devadiga Sangh president Hiriyadka Mohandas presided over the programme.
The Sangh’s former president K Bhujangadar, Bunts Association vice-president Shyam N Shetty, and entrepreneur Kishore Trivedi were the guests of honour.
The Sangh’s former presidents J K Moily, S P Karmaran, and Gopal M Moily, vice-presidents Vasu S Devadiga and Ravi S Devadiga, joint secretaries Padmanabha A Devadiga and Rukmini Y Devadiga, joint treasurers Ramesh B Devadiga and Umesh R Devadiga, women’s wing president Pushpa S Rao, cultural committee president Prafulla Vasu Devadiga, and K N Devadiga were present on the occasion.
The Sangh’s former president K K Mohandas welcomed the gathering. Education committee president Malati J Moily compered the programme. Bharati Nettekar and honorary chief secretary Sundar C Moily proposed the vote of thanks.
Variety cultural programmes including patriotic singing and dance recital were held on the occasion.
