CBI to Bring Israeli Drug Dealer to Goa

Panaji, Aug 17 (IANS): A Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) team will head for Peru Thursday to extradite Israeli drug dealer Yaniv Benaim alias Atala, a crucial link to Goa police-politician-drug mafia nexus.

The CBI team will oversee the extradition procedure and bring the Israeli drug dealer back to Goa for interrogation, CBI Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Pravin Salunke told reporters Wednesday.

"Once he (Atala) is extradited to India, the probe into the drug nexus will speed up," Salunke said.

Atala, an Israeli national, was arrested in 2009 after his former Swedish girlfriend Lucky Farmhouse exposed his links to police officers.

The revelation by Farmhouse resulted in the arrest of Atala and seven police officers, who were suspended.

Atala, who was subsequently released on bail, later fled India in March 2010 and was untraceable until he was arrested in Peru months later.

Farmhouse also revealed the alleged links of Goa Home Minister Ravi Naik's son Roy Naik to drug trade.

New Delhi, Aug 17 (IANS): Civil society leader Anna Hazare will not leave Tihar Jail till the location of his fast is finalised, his aide said Wednesday.

"Anna said that I will not go till the issue of location for fast is sorted out because it will be of no use. If I come out, the same problem will be there again where the fast should take place," Hazare's associate Manish Sisodia said, quoting the activist.

"So he said that tell us what is the status where we will fast, solve the issue," he told NDTV.

According to Sisodia, the fast was under way. What was supposed to place in J.P. Park was taking place inside Tihar, he said.

"Anna's fast is going on, the movement is going on, he has left the barracks of the jail but is in the room of a jail official. Whatever we were supposed to do in the (J.P.) park, we are doing here," Sisodia said.

He added that other senior members of Team Anna would join him at Tihar. Supporters have already gathered outside the jail.

Hazare was jailed here Tuesday ahead of his fast for an effective anti-corruption law. The Delhi Police action led to protests across the country. The government changed its mind later in the evening and released Hazare but he refused to come out until he was allowed to carry on his hunger strike without any conditions.
