Mangaluru/Udupi: Heavy rains lash coastal districts, yellow alert announced in region

Mangaluru/Udupi, Oct 1: Monsoon intensified in the Karavali region as the coastal districts received heavy rainfall on Saturday.

Mangaluru received intermittent spells of rainfall on Saturday. However, rainfall was heavy towards the late evening accompanied by gutsy winds. Bantwal, Belthangady, Puttur, Sullia and  various other regions received heavy rainfall causing considerable damage as well.

Udupi too received heavy rainfall. Karkala and Kundapura received heavy rainfall. Brahmavar, Hebri, Kaup, Padubidri, Byndoor, Belmann and a few other places saw both sunny and overcast conditions followed by rainfall. Udupi, Manipal, Malpe, Parkala and its surroundings experienced intermittent rainfall in the afternoon till the evening.

Power supply was disrupted in several areas due to the winds and rainfall. Several places received rainfall late in the night on Friday.

Damage to property and houses was reported in regions of Palimaru, Nandikooru, Moodbidri, Havanje, Hosuru and Arooru due to the rainfall.
The Indian Meteorological Department has declared a yellow alert from October 1 and has forecast heavy rainfall in the region.

Mangaluru recorded a maximum temperature of 27.8 degrees celsius and a minimum temperature of 23.8 degrees celsius on Saturday.
