Mangaluru, Oct 3: Although seven months have passed since the old management committee of Ullal Juma Masjid Sayyed Madani Darga relinquished authority in favor of the new management committee, the key to the main office had not been handed over to the new management. Therefore, the office was opened on Tuesday in the presence of Ullal tahsildar and Wakf officers for inspection.
During the inspection, Rs 38,058 in cash and documents of decisions up to 2016 were discovered. Tahsildar Puttaraju, after the inspection, stated that the new committee had assumed charge on March 8, 2023. However, the old management committee had not handed over the key to the room even after six months. Consequently, the room was opened and inspected in the presence of all concerned parties. An amount of Rs 38,058 in cash and some document books were discovered, and these have been handed over to the appropriate authorities, he said.
Wakf officer Aboobaker stated that the room was opened under the directions of Mangluru assistant commissioner.
Darga president Hanif noted that there was a tradition of holding Urus once every five years, holding elections within the next six months, and transferring authority in Juma masjid. The Rashid Haji committee, which assumed power in 2016, was unjust as it failed to transfer authority and hand over the key. Since this issue was brought to the attention of the department, officials took action after seven months by opening the room, conducting an inquest, and handing over the cash and document books, he said.
Secretary Shihabuddin Sakhafi mentioned that officials conducted a panchanama and provided decision books up to 2016. However, the records of events held for the past seven years are missing. A decision will be made regarding this, he added.
President B G Hanif Haji, vice president Ashraf Raitte, chief secretary Mohammed Shihabuddin Sakhafi, treasurer Nazim Mukkacheri, joint secretary Isak Melangadi, Mustafa Madanagar, auditor Farook, Vakf officer Aboobacker, revenue inspector Manjunath, second division staff K H Rafik were present.
Police security was arranged under the leadership of assistant police commissioner Dhanya and Ullal station police inspector Balakrishna H N.
