Udupi, Oct 5: Indian Council for Cultural Relations, in collaboration with Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) Manipal and Savitribai Phule Pune University launched the online platform “Universalization of traditional Indian Knowledge System portal” (UTIKS) on October 5 at Manipal.
The UTIKS portal was inaugurated by Dr Vinay Sahasrabuddhe, president, ICCR in presence of Dr Narayan Sabhahit, pro-vice chancellor, Manipal Academy of Higher Education, Kumar Tuhin, director general, ICCR dignitaries and officials and international students from Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE).
During the presentation, video clips showcasing these UTIKS videos with a brief narration were showcased by Abhay Kumar, deputy director general of ICCR.
On launching Dr Vinay Sahasrabuddhe said, “UTIKS is one of the new digital avatars of teaching learning systems. The institutional mission of ICCR is to translate the goodwill that India enjoys in its past, present and future including the very idea of India. The Indian manuscripts deal with every topic under the sun. It ranges from Philosophy, yoga, grammar, language, logic, debate, literature to art and others. TV Mekale declared that traditional Indian knowledge consists of false history, false astronomy, false medicine in the company of a false religion. Many Indian academics and intellectuals sadly have implicitly or explicitly accepted the knowledge from the West is the real thing. This created a deep sense of inferiority complex. We want to have a re-integration. What was glorious was glorious. Today we have to match the glory of the past to the challenges of the present if we have to move into the future. This portal will create curiosity and motivate foreign students, and for some non Indian residents to go deeper into the traditional knowledge that this land has created for millennia.”
