Bangalore, Aug 23: On Monday, another first information report (FIR) was registered by the Lokayukta police against former Chief Minister, B S Yeddyrappa. The case relates to certain observations and allegations contained in the Lokayukta report on illegal mining. FIRs were also registered against Yeddy’s sons, Vijayendra and Raghavendra, apart from son-in-law, Sohan Kumar.

This is the second FIR to have been filed against Yeddyrappa, who already faces a FIR registered two weeks back relating to the allegation of irregularities in tender process relating to Bhadra Upper Canal Project. In that case, the Lokayukta special court had directed the police for registration of FIR. It is gathered that now, Yeddyurappa has the dubious distinction of being the only former Chief Minister to have been named as an accused in two FIRs filed by the Lokayukta.

In the history of Karnataka, no former Chief Minister was named in two FIRs till now, it is gathered. Yeddyurappa, who was forced to step down, continues to face the ignominy of  having to face more cases in course of time.

Lokayukta additional director general of police, Jeevan Kumar Gaonkar, said that the policemen will investigation charges made in the FIR.  He said that the Lokayukta had asked the police to take suitable steps, based on the recommendation of the state Governor relating to mining scam report.  At the same time, he felt that the chances of arresting the former Chief Minister in the immediate future are remote, and that further steps will be taken after concluding investigation.
