Dubai, Oct 17: The Dubai premiere show of Konkani movie ‘Osmitay’, in search of a Konkani identity, produced by Mandd Sobhann, was at Star Galleria Cinema Deira on October 15. The premiere show was attended by lead actor, actress and producer of Osmitay, in search of Konkani identity, along with host of dignitaries and Konkani buffs from Dubai.
A short stage programme was held prior to the screening of the movie. The programme began with a welcome and keynote address by Roshan D’Silva, compere of the evening and member of Team Osmitay, UAE.
Addressing the gathering Louis J Pinto, president of Mandd Sobhann and producer of the movie, thanked Konkani lovers for extending whole-hearted support to the movie, thereby contributing mightily towards the success of Osmitay, in search of Konkani identity. He added that it was Mandd Sobhann’s long cherished dream to produce a Konkani movie and it has finally been realized. “Ever since the movie was released a month ago, over 300 shows have been staged in India and abroad and many more shows will be held in the coming days across the globe. I appreciate the efforts put in by Team Osmitay UAE in bringing the movie to UAE and providing an opportunity to Konkani speaking people to watch the movie. Such support will encourage Mandd Sobhann to take up more such creative projects that would contribute in the nurturing and promotion of Konkani language and heritage,” he said.
Speaking on the occasion, noted NRI entrepreneur and philanthropist, Ronald Colaco congratulated Mandd Sobhann for the success of its maiden movie venture and said that this will inspire Mandd Sobhann to continue to Mission Konkani that they have been doing for decades.
Dayan D’Souza, member of Team Osmitay, UAE thanked the audience who had come in large numbers to watch Osmitay movie. In his inspiring speech, he also touched upon the works done by Mandd Sobhann in preserving and nurturing Konkani language. He also assured continued support to Mandd Sobhann’s mission from Konkani speaking community of UAE. Making a special mention of Eric Ozario, Gurkar of Mandd Sobhann, Dayan dwelt upon Eric’s contribution to Mandd Sobhann in particular and Konkani in general.
Noted entrepreneurs Martin Aranha, Leo DSouza, Norbert D’Souza, Joseph Mathias, Lancy D’Souza, James Mendonca, Osmitay team member Alwyn Pinto along with lead actor and actress Ashwin D’Costa and Wencita Dias were also present on the dais.
There were 3 shows (two in Dubai and one in Abu Dhabi) on Sunday October 15 and all the three shows were houseful. Noting the huge demand by Konkani lovers, Team Osmitay has already planned another show in Dubai on Saturday October 21at 7.30pm at Star Galleria Cinema and Sunday October 22 at 5.30 pm at Cinepolis Cinema, Oasis Mall Sharjah.
