Bantwal, Aug 25: Dakshina Kannada district deputy commissioner (DC), Dr Chennappa Gowda, paid a surprise visit to the fly over site at B C Road here on Wednesday August 24. He warned the officials of the company which is executing the highway development project, to complete service roads on both sides of the fly over within a month, and send him a completion report thereof.

He also ordered suspension of an employee for failing to deliver 798 income certificates to the concerned. He instructed the concerned to deliver these certificates to the houses of the applicants before Thursday evening. He also issued instructions to withhold the salary of an employee of the revenue department, for keeping 289 files relating to compensation payment towards funeral of bodies till all these files are cleared. He also warned an employee for committing a blunder in issuing caste certificate.

During his visit, he reviewed the working of revenue department. He summoned the officials of the company executing highway expansion work to the office, and passed the above instruction. The incomplete fly over work at B C Road has attracted lot of complaints and criticisms from the people over a protracted period. It also had become a subject of a number of reports which appeared in several newspapers.

The DC also inspected road works related to the damage suffered by Vogga-Vamadapadavu road because of rains, damaged stretches of Karpe Road, works at Chandtimar Ambedkar Bhavan and land conversion for industrial purposes at Chennaittody village.

When the press persons enquired him about the pathetic state of Moodbidri-Bantwal road because of rain, he promised to undertake repairs once the monsoon season ends. A number of officials accompanied him during the visit.

The B.C. Road new fly over bridge though opened a few months back looks like ten year old monument. The trafic is allowed to enter from bantwal side only and there is no access road from Mangalore side.So if you are driving from Mangalore to Bantwal you have to go through trafic and horrible road that passes through BCRoad market.I think DC was watching Anna Hazare episode last night and suddenly realised that his last family trip from Bangalore was not smooth. He might have felt the bad roads and might have felt the jerks inside the car.

The so called four lane to Bantwal-Mangalore is only one sided two lanes and causes very much confusion if you are driving with a good speed. All of a sudden it is two lane and you will find a veichle coming towards you on the same lane that you drive. The DC is supreme head of the district and I dont think he should wait for the people to come and file greviences about roads and infrastructure nuissance in the entire district. He gets his salary credited to his account on time and he has suffecient security with all fuel allowances.I think he should tour the entire district and city and take account of all the roads and bridges.
