Beltangady, Aug 25: A gang of six persons hailing from Davangere region, who were cheating the two wheeler riders by selling them fake petrol saving kits, were arrested by the local policemen on Wednesday August 24.

The accused arrested, Prakash, Kumar, Shankar Naik, Manju Naik, Anju Naik, and Raju, reportedly used to loiter around a petrol bunk in Ujire since the last three days. They stopped motor bikes passing that way, and requeste the riders to buy the kits which they said, substantially saves fuel usage by increasing mileage of their two-wheelers. They also offered the kits at Rs 70, claiming that the instruments are being sold by the new company which is manufacturing them at a fat discount, as an introductory offer.

Although such cases have come out in the open at many places in the past, and reports about them have appeared in various publications, many fell to their plans and bought the devices. However, some alert citizens found out that these devices were bogus, and informed the police. Sub-inspector of police, Yogish Kumar, arrested the youth. Although the kits they sell bear the name of a company said to be based in Chennai, the company itself is found to be fake. The arrested persons who initially claimed themselves to be from Bijapur and Belgaum, later said they are from Davangere.  Detailed investigations about their operations are on.
