Mangaluru: Annual convention of All Franciscan Families of India held

Mangaluru, Oct 24: The Annual Convention of All Franciscan Families of India (AFFI) of Mangaluru-Udupi was held on Monday October 23 at St Ann's Friary, Bejai. The event was a day-long programme filled with reflection and comradeship.

Fr Rocky Dcunha OFM Cap, the superior of St Ann's Friary, Bejai addressed the gathering on the theme 'Significance of our Franciscan Charism - Franciscan Values Today'. In the light of the ongoing 800th jubilee year of the Franciscan celebration, Fr D’Cunha emphasized the importance of the celebration of eight centuries of the composition of the later rule of the Friar minors, the rule, which was so significant to St Francis, and in turn handed on to each of three orders, summed as ‘observing the Gospel’ and reconnected the original spirit and roots of Franciscan values. He stressed the significance in celebrating the centenary of Christmas in Greccio as a Franciscan Family which is an invitation to pause before the mystery of the Incarnation to contemplate the greatness of divine love for humanity.

 

The Eucharistic celebration was officiated by Dr Aloysius Paul D'Souza, bishop emeritus of Mangalore diocese who delivered a sermon highlighting the profound influence of St Francis' lifestyle on numerous notable figures. He also underscored the transformative impact of Pope Francis on today's world, citing various initiatives aimed at the betterment of both nature and humanity.

The formees, brothers and sisters presented a cultural event addressing the contemporary challenges and global issues and the influence of Francis' life on the world. An ice-breaking session was organized, fostering a deeper sense of fraternity among the participants of 63 communities of 15 Franciscan religious congregations and representatives of Third Order Secular Franciscans (OFS). A sumptuous meal was provided for all.
