Moodbidri, Aug 26: The responsible citizens of the taluk have taken a stance by lodging a complaint with the deputy commissioner. When information was sought from town council on building licenses issued in it’s jurisdiction under Right to Information Act, it was not provided. 

Jaison Taccode, a resident of Moodubidri expressed anguish over non- provision of the information by the town council during a press conference held here on Thursday August 25.

Despite the application being submitted to the town council, it responded that it needs an additional 30 days to photocopy 302 files and provide all the information.
Taccode alleged that the concerned officials are delaying issuing the information fearing that their shoddy affairs will be exposed.  “There has been considerable delay in issuing trade licences and renovation of buildings,” he alleged.

“Town council officials are pressurizing him to withdraw his application fearing a major scam,” added Jason. He emphasized that he will not withdraw his application but would instead continue his struggle for justice by complaining to the deputy commissioner and state information rights’ officers.

Background of the case:  

Jason had submitted an application to town council CEO and public information officer A A Ganesh seeking information on building permits issued in the limits of the town council in a two-year duration under Right to Information on July 24, 2005. The town council was supposed to give information within 30 days of submitting the application.  However, despite 59 days elapsing since then, he lodged a complaint with the deputy commissioner against the town council.
