Mumbai: Mangalorean Welfare Association Vidyavihar celebrates 50th anniversary

Mumbai, Oct 30: Konkani organization Mangalorean Welfare Association which has become famous by holding high class programmes in Mumbai every year, celebrated their golden jubilee at Javer Ben auditorium, Ghatkopar at 3 PM on October 22.

The cultural programme consisted of dances by Rhea Menezes, Thane followed by Nashibachi Rani song by Johny Honnavar, comedy skits by the Expressions Trio Alwyn Andrade, Stephan Louis and Sujatha Andrade Sastan, dances by Vakolacho Thalo Vakola Harshe D’ Souza, Josita D’Souza, Reshma Sequeira, Maira Pinto and Princy D’Souza, solo song by Levin Fernandes, Jerimeri, group song ‘Ami Kalakaran’ by Konknechin Motyan, Marol and solo dance by Guinness world record holder Abigail Ambrose Vasai.

John D’Silva was the chief guest. Albert W D’Souza inaugurated the programme. A M D’Souza, proprietor of Anand Buses and Henry Lobo were the guests of honor.

President of the organization, Lawrence D’Souza Kamani, vice president Leo Fernandes, general secretary Vincent Castelino, treasurer Philomena Rebello and assistant treasurer John A D’Silva were on the dais. A message of madam Grace Pinto wishing the organization well was read during the programme.

Earlier, the dignitaries set the programme in motion. President Lawrence D’Souza Kamani welcomed. He paid homage in his introductory address to departed souls of office bearers president Denis F Lobo,
vice president I V Sequeira, general secretary Everest Fernandes and treasurer Jacob E Fernandes.

Everybody stood up and observed a minute’s silence in their memory. He gave a brief report of the growth of the organization till now. Albert W D’Souza commended the activities of the organization and called on youth to come forward for the development of Konkani language. Henry Lobo said that the
intentions of the organization are significant for the current period.

He said that the organization has been working for the growth of Konkani language and assured his cooperation.

The souvenir of the golden jubilee was released by chief guest John D’Silva. Members of children who did well in studies and sports activities were called to the stage and honored by flowers, certificates and prizes. Former president Stany Saldanha and former vice president Lawrence S D’ Souza were felicitated. Office bearers of various organizations, Francis Fernandes Casia, Joy Paladka and others, senior author V I D’ Silva on his 56th wedding anniversary were felicitated. General secretary Vincent Castelino proposed a vote of thanks.

Preetam Machado and Veronica D’Souza sang ‘Dhanv Dhanv Bhaini’ song, Philomena Rebello, Benedicta Nazareth, Jessy Fernandes, Gracy Joseph, Jacinta Jabeth and Sandra D’ Mello performed a dance titled ‘Saitan’.

Expression trio presented skits, Levin Fernandes and Johny Honnavar sang songs, Silvia Fernandes, Flavy Fernandes, Jenel Monteiro, Prescilla Rodrigues, Joel Rodrigues and Preston Rodrigues Vasai performed group dance, Mercin Miranda, Precilla Rodrigues, Anita Fernandes, Richael Miranda, John Rodrigues and Leo Fernades performed Baila dance.
