Mangaluru/Udupi, Oct 31: This year, Kannada Rajyotsava awards have been announced to recognise the contributions of 68 achievers at state level, 43 at Dakshina Kannada and 30 at Udupi district levels from diverse domains. A total of 10 organisations and institutions at state level, 17 at Dakshina Kannada and five at Udupi district levels have been selected for these prestigious awards.
The state level awardees from undivided Dakshina Kannada include Charmadi Hasanabba for social service, Leelavathi Baipadithaya and Argodu Mohandas Shenoy for Yakshagana, Dr Prashanth Shetty for the medical field, Dinesh Amin Mattu for journalism and Haji Abdulla Parkala.
The district level awardees include Ronald Silvan D'Souza, executive director of Leksa Lighting for entrepreneurship, and Henry Mendonca, fondly known as H M Pernal for Konkani literature and journalism, Leo Fernandes of Allipade, Sarapadi village, Bantwal for agriculture and Ravi Posavanike, photo journalist, Times of India.

About H M pernal
H M Pernal has published over 750 poems, over 100 short stories and over 2000 essays and articles in the last 38 years. ‘Cholyank Chothrai’ (1999) ‘Kaidyachyo Kavita’ (2004) ‘Bamunanchem Cheddum’ (2006) are the published anthologies of his poems. ‘Devaak sodullo Pado (2002) and ‘Beeg ani Beegatha’ (2016) are the published collections of short stories. ‘Konkani Kavyem: Rupam ani Rupakam’ (2021) is a collection of critical essays on modern Konkani poetry.
Currently he was the Advisory Board Member of Kendra Sahitya Academy's Konkani wing.
Awards are being given for the tireless efforts of 10 organisations and institutions working towards the welfare of Karnataka, which also includes the Dakshina Kannada's Muslim Educational Institutions Federation and Maruthi Janaseva Sangha.
Thirty individuals and five organisations have been selected for the 2023 Rajyotsava Award at the Udupi district-level.
The awardees include Yakshagana artistes Mahabala Nayak, Uppunda Nagendra Rao, Ajri Gopal Ganiga, Havanje Manjunath Rao and Chitrapadi Krishnamurthy Urala.
Beeru Panara, K Govinda Bangera, Ashok Shetty of Daivaradganae, Ganghadhar Kediyoor for raghabhoomi, B Krishna Devadiga for painting, Suresh Salian for music, Vidhushi Bhagirathi M Rao for Bharathnatyam, Jyothi Guruprasad for literature, Nati Vaidya Vasth Tantry, chef P Yajna Narayana Bhat, Dr A Subbanna Shetty for medicine, sportspersons Ayush Shetty, Vidya U Shetty and Prathviraj Shetty.
A Bhaskar Poojary, Babu Acharya, Jayaram Shetty, Shivaram Shetty have been selected for agriculture.
Dr Gananth Shetty Ekkar for service, Praveen Shetty non residential Kannaadiga, and Austin Kumar Katapady, H Bhasker Jois, Ayisha Karkala for social service, Bhojub Naika for traditional medicine and Harish Kunder for journalism are the others who have been selected for Udupi district-level Rajyotsava award.
Meanwhile, Yuvaka mandala Kuthyar, Ajapura Karnataka Sangha Brahmavar, Chatgrapathi foundation, Abhayahastha Charitable Trust, and Kundapura Yuva Buntara sangha have also been selected for the district Rajyotsava awards.
The Rajyotsava awards this year encompass achievers from various sectors such as music, dance, cinema, theatre, sculpture, painting, drawing, fine arts, sports, folklore, social service, administration, medicine, literature, education, sports, judiciary, environment, cultural, scientific, and freedom fighters, non resident Kannadigas and Gadinadu or border area Kannadigas.
