Bangalore, Aug 27: Eshwarachandra Vidyasagar, Lokayukta city superintendent of police (SP), got himself relieved from Lokakyukta service on Friday August 26 morning. As per media reports, his name has figured in the illegal mining report prepared by the Lokayukta. It is alleged that during the period he was the SP of Koppal district, Vidyasagar was paid a sum of Rs 6.87 lac as bribe by Kharadapudi Mahesh from Bellary, whose name has predominantly appeared in the mining scam. This information was contained in a pen drive recovered by Dr U V Singh, who headed the Lokayukta team on mining scam, from Kharadapudi Mahesh.

Vidyasagar met state Lokayukta, Justice Shivaraj Patil, on Thursday evening, and explained that it would be difficult for him to work honestly, as people would always treat his actions with an eye of suspicion. He had requested Justice Patil to relieve him immediately. The Lokayukta asked him to stay put till the recommendation of the committee of officials appointed for the purpose submits its report. Sources said that Vidyasagar persisted with his demand for being relieved.

Vidyasagar had taken over as the new Lokayukta SP of this city last week.
