Mangalore, Aug 29: The Association of New Mangalore Port Stevedores president Shekhar Pujari along with ECA Mohidiun, secretary B Nithyananda Shetty, treasurer Balakrishna J, discussed and presented memorandum on behalf of Port users to withdraw the Exorbitant Increase of Port Rentals Retrospective effect from Feb 2007 onwards to the additional secretary and financial advisor, Vijaya Chhibber, Ministry of Shipping in the presence of NMPT deputy chairman K S N Murthy.
The association representatives said that they were wholly surprised and badly hurt by this order which increased rentals from 50% to 84%. This is extremely hight trading on EXM trade at the port, they lamented.
The association requested the ministry of shipping to give instructions to NMPT to withdraw the retrospective demand and collect it prospectively since the port users are already undergoing a lot of hardships and huge loses.
