Udupi, Nov 11: A condolence meeting was organized on Saturday at the Udupi press club here for senior journalists Shekar Ajekar and Shashidhar Hemmanna, who passed away recently. The event was organized by the Udupi District Working Journalists' Association, of which both Ajekar and Hemmanna were active members.
MLC Kota Srinivas Poojary spoke and emphasized that the path of a writer is never easy, full of challenges and difficulties. “Writers face and overcome challenges, presenting themselves to society,” he said. Poojary expressed that becoming a recognized figure as a writer requires more than just economic success, highlighting the importance of making a mark in society through one's writing.
“Shekar Ajekar was known for his in-depth studies in social life,” said Poojary. Regarding Shashidhar Hemmanna, Poojary mentioned that he was closely connected to ground realities through his writings. Poojary also said that if both had not faced health issues, they could have contributed much more to society for many more years.
Udupi Rangabhoomi vice president Bhaskar Raavu Kidiyoor, Udupi District Working Journalists' Association president Rajesh Shetty Alevoor, treasurer Umesh Marpalli, former president Gokul Das Pai, senior editor Karunakar, and journalists Deepak Jain and Shashidhar Mastibail offered their condolences.
In this context, the general secretary Nazir Polya, former president Jayakar Suvarna, convener Ajit Aradi, co-convener Ankit Shetty, North Karnataka district correspondent Shivakumar, and Kemmannu gram panchayat secretary Dinakar Bengre were also present.
