Bantwal, Nov 13: Second incident of altercation between KSRTC bus conductor and passenger is reported from BC Road with regards to transportation of goods in the bus.

On Sunday, a woman who was travelling with cans filled with coconut oil was asked to alight from the bus by the conductor on the bus that was going to Hassan from Mangaluru. The act of conductor was objected by the woman and other passengers and a verbal duel ensued. However, police intervened and pacified the situation and the woman was allowed to travel in the same bus.

As per details, the woman was carrying a bag. While issuing ticket, the conductor asked the contents in the bag. The woman jokingly replied that there is bomb. When the conductor checked he found three cans of coconut oil. The conductor said that any type of oil is not allowed to be carried in the bus. Both the conductor and the woman argued till the bus reached B C Road bus stand.

The bus conductor informed the matter to the woman traffic police personnel stationed at BC Road bus stand. She in turn brought the matter to the notice of station PSI. The conductor said that he is following the rules of the KSRTC and no oil is allowed inside the bus. In addition, the conductor also said that the woman answered that she is carrying a bomb while he asked for the contents.

The woman clarified that she said bomb because the conductor asked the contents even after knowing that she was carrying coconut oil.

The PSI was successful in convincing the conductor to allow the woman to travel on the bus and the matter was resolved peacefully.

KSRTC conductor has every right to question what she is carrying & answer was sheer negligence. Any material which may cause inconvenience to co passengers (like non-veg, alcohol etc..) or which pose threat to passenger safety (like crackers, inflamable oils etc) must not be allowed.

Hoi ksrtc, buses is the only mode of transport to many destinations. Of course you should object to bombs, but if you object to cooking oil, home cooking quantity of fish, meat eggs, then you may have to run special service to carry these items. Else stay off the roads, let people fund for a compawhich is practical.

First chicken and fish, now coconut oil, what next? Where were rules before freebie scheme? One can understand prohibiting petrol, acid or such hazardous items.

KSRTC must be aware that 3/4 of the time they break the law. Especially the way they ply on the road throwing all caution to the wind. And in this case the conductor is wrong since the rules KSRTC has is not aware to the general public. One cannot ask a passenger to alight because she was carrying coconut oil which not many passengers are aware. Why not put up a list of items not to be carried. Lastly maybe the conductor doesnt like tue smell of coconut oil which is common to many. But again I have seen many carry fish in the bus. End of the day, KSRTC and private plyers too should be more tolerant since many rural passengers are dependent on buses.
