Bengaluru, Nov 15: Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy has given some good news to motorists on the occasion of Deepavali. The last date for adoption of High-Security Registration Plate (HSRP) has been extended.

Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy has stated that November 17 was the last date to adopt high-security registration plates, which will now be extended till February 17, 2024.

Talking to the media persons about the decision, he said, "We are thinking of extending the period till February 17 and an official gazette notification will come in a day or two."

The state transport department had issued an order making it mandatory to install High-Security Registration Plate (HSRP) on nearly two crore vehicles registered before April 1, 2019.

It was also said that after November 17, a fine will be levied on vehicles that do not install HSRP number plates. Now that the period has been extended, the motorists can heave a sigh of relief.

On August 17, the state government had issued a notification mandating implementation of HSRP exclusively by authorised dealers of original equipment manufacturers (OEMs). HSRP number plate;

Members of the public have to apply for a new number plate online and pay for it, which is a tough task for motorists in rural areas. Around two crore vehicle owners across the state have to get new number plates.
