Sancoale: HOFCOM celebrates annual day

Sancoale, Nov 24: Holy Family Communication Centre had its annual day known as ‘Founder’s Day’ at the Holy Family Multipurpose Hall, Sancoale, on November 22.

The event began imploring the blessings of the Almighty through a prayer dance by the students of St Joseph Vaz High School, Sancoale. Followed by a welcome address by the directress of Hofcom Centre, Sr Molly Fernandes said, “To speak the truth from the heart does not mean our heart must be right when and only when we speak. One’s heart must hold to the true faith, and this faith must work itself out in thoughts that are honest, righteous and God-honouring.In a world driven by advancement in technology and artificial intelligence, we often turn to ancient wisdom and spiritual guidance to find our bearing.”

 

The annual day comprised of inter-school competition for the students from pre-primary to standard 9 students of Holy Family Educational Society, social centres, boarders and the formees. Eleven Schools, 4 Social Centres, 4 boardings and the formees took part in the various competitions on the theme ‘Ancient Aura and Modern AI (artificial Intelligence).’

Fr Faustino D’Souza used human intelligence with wisdom and integrity. His words had powerful impact on the young minds.

Following were the competitions conducted:

Inter-school on-stage presentation

Pre-primary: To Say ‘Maximum sayings of Fr Founder’ in 1 minute (1 participant) 

1 to 4: Fancy dress ‘Ancient means of Communication’ in 2 minutes (1 participant)

5 to 7: Mime on ‘Artificial Intelligence V/s Human Intelligence’ (5 minutes) (6 participants)

8: Elocution on ‘Ancient Aura (link to Founder Fr Faustino) V/s Artificial Intelligence’ (3minutes) (1 participant) 

9: Model on Artificial Intelligence (AI) (prepare and bring) Size - 24?×18? (3 minutes for explanation), (2 participants)

Formees - PowerPoint presentation (prepare and bring): ‘Use of modern gadgets’ keeping in mind the teachings of Fr. Founder, for students of higher secondary. 10 slides (2 participants) 7 minutes.

To prepare and bring:

Social Centres, Geometrical lamp

Boarders: Big boarders, Collage on Founders face.(1 participant)

Small boarders: Wall hanging on Fr Founder’s saying (1 participant)

The day was graced by chief guest Dr Aisha Fernandes, associate professor of the information technology department at the Goa College of Engineering, Farmgudi. The guest of honour Sr Berna Rodrigues, superior general of the congregation of the Holy Family of Nazareth and also the president of the Holy Family Education Society. Saiesh Mahale, a software engineer, information technology engineering and scholastic Irivio Callistus Joao SJ.

The judges used their experience and expertise to give the just results where the deserving schools were awarded trophy and certificates. Also, a participation certificate was given to those who participated.

Perpetual Succour Convent High School, Navelim were declared the overall winners who took away the rolling Trophy.

The chief guest said she was impressed by the school who prepared the students and gave such a tough competition. Every school used innovative skills and trained the students to articulate the words in expressing the matter of ancient aura and modern AI. The model making and the mime had a uniqueness. The little ones who memorised the sayings of the founder won the hearts of many. While the ancient means of communication reminded how much we depended on those local and verbal means of communication.

The guests of honour encouraged every participant and congratulated the schools for taking active part in the activities. She also reminded that it was the pearl anniversary of the Holy Family Communication Centre which was officially inaugurated on November 24, 1993 by the then Archbishop Patriarch Raul Gonsalves. She thanked the directress and the team members who work together and putting up this event with lots of hard work.

The dignitaries of the day gave away the prizes after the speeches. The chief guest Dr Aisha and the guest of honour superior general Sr Berna Rodrigues, released ‘Savera’ the congregation magazine.

The students were refreshed with serving of snacks when they came and a lunch pack after the function.

The vote of thanks was proposed by Sr Rita SFN while the programme was compered by Sr Valetina SFN.
