Udupi: St Mary’s Ruby Run inspires agility among students, general public

Udupi, Dec 3: “St Mary’s Ruby Run” organised on the ruby jubilee occasion of the St Mary’s English Medium School, Kannarpady, Udupi received a tremendous participation from the students and general public. The ruby run marathon event was held on Sunday, December 3.

Athlete Monisha Amin and international level sportsperson inaugurated the above 17 years 13 K run. Addressing the runners, she said “Winning or losing is not important but it is the participation. Sports gives us new energy. I'm immensely happy to see the sports spirit among the participants. Let us support each other and participate.”

Rajesh, Habit saloon and beauty retail Suresh, director Prakash retail private limited Fr Charles Menezes, correspondent St Mary’s English medium school Fr Johnson Sequiera, Principal Rita Quadrous, vice-principal were present during the inaugural programme.

Sujatha Shetty, president of Ambalpady grama panchayat flagged off the Under 14 age category 3 K marathon in Ambalpady. Sushma G Bhandary, police sub-inspector Malpe police station flagged off the 5 K run at Kuthpady.

The various distance runs were held in St Mary’s Campus, Kannarpady. The route covered key locations such as Kinnimulky, Ambalpady, Kediyoor Junction, and concluded back at St Mary’s English Medium School campus. Necessary checkpoints, water stations and emergency services were also arranged along the route.

The participants beginning from youngest to the senior citizens participated in the marathon with sportsman spirit.

The formal prize distribution ceremony was also held on the completion of the marathon. Fr Charles Menezes, correspondent presided over the prize distribution programme.  Juliana D'Souza, Shreevathsa Ballal, AGM Marketing, Prakash Retail Pvt Ltd, Gautham Shetty, Torpedoes Sports Club, Karthik Shetty, V4 Developers, Maxim D'Souza, vice-president, Parish Pastoral Committee, Dr Arthur Rodrigues, secretary, Fr Johnson Sequiera, principal, Rita Quadrous, vice-principal, Justin D'Silva, staff correspondent, Daijiworld were present on the occasion.

Dignitaries honoured the winners with cash prize, memento, certificates and trophies.

Presiding over the event, Fr Charles Menezes said “I thank all the participants for their participation. This is the first time we are organising such an event. This event represents our aims of providing quality education along with sports and cultural activities. This initiative is also an example of how much importance we give to health. Principal, vice-principal and all the staff have worked immensely for the successful organisation of this event, I  congratulate and thank everyone for their efforts”.

Faculty members Bhasker, Vinay, Amrutha, Walter compered the day’s proceedings.

The first, second, third place winners of the 13 K run were awarded with cash prizes of Rs 13,000, Rs 10,000, and Rs 7,000 respectively. The fourth and fifth position were awarded with Rs 5,000, and Rs 3,000 respectively.

The first, second, third place winners of the 5 K run were awarded with cash prizes of Rs 5,000, Rs 4,000, and Rs 3,000 respectively. The fourth and fifth position were awarded with Rs 2,000, and Rs 1,000 respectively.

The first, second, and third place winners of the 3 K run were awarded with cash prizes of Rs 3,000, Rs 2,500, and Rs 2,000 respectively. The fourth and fifth position were awarded with Rs 1,500, and Rs 1,000 respectively.
