Mangalore, Sep 6: A workshop on ‘voice disorders’ was organized by the Department of Otorhinolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery of Kasturba Medical College at KMC hospital Attavar, here recently.
The workshop was inaugurated by Dr G.K Prabhu, Registrar of Manipal University. Dr Jayakumar from Trivendrum, Dr Nupur N from Mumbai and Dr K K Handa from New Delhi were the guest faculty for the workshop.
The workshop was attended by about 130 delegates from all over South India. The event which spread over 2 days included lectures, panel discussions, cadaver dissections and live surgeries concerning voice disorders. There were also diagnostic sessions with patients and professional voice users with direct interaction and discussion which guided them on how they could to use their voice effectively. Eleven patients were operated, who benefited by getting a better voice and hence a better quality of life.
Maj Gen (Retd) Dr G Rajagopal AVSM, Dean of Kasturba Medical College applauded on the dedication of the team of Doctors in conducting such an insightful program. He stated that such programs are an opportunity for doctors to meet in a common forum and share their expertise which in turn becomes very beneficial for the society.
Dr Sunil Deshpande, medical superintendent of KMC Hospital, Attavar stated that the facilities of phonetic surgery will now be made available at KMC Hospital, Mangalore.
