Udupi: MAHE hosts ICPESS conference for third time in Manipal

Udupi, Dec 14: Manipal Academy of Higher education under the aegis of NAPESS hosted ICPESS conference for the third time on December 14 at Dr TMA Pai Hall, KMC, Manipal.

Prof Klaus Peter Herm, professor of Emirates, Germany in his note said, “Manipal Academy of Higher Education has developed a lot in the area of sports. This is the 25th year of National Association of Physical Education and Sports Science (NAPESS), Prof Chinnapa Reddy has contributed a lot and developed NAPESS.”

Prof Chinnappa Reddy, chief patron NAPESS, addressing the gathering said, “NAPESS was started 25 years back and this year NAPESS is celebrating silver jubilee. NAPESS was started in Agriculture University Hisar in 1998, it was then shifted to Maharashtra with 124 members after two years and now it has spread all over the country. MAHE, Manipal hosted three ICPESS conferences which boosted the NAPESS. We have Indian speakers from north to south of the country, 40 speakers from different countries are invited to the 25th year conference.”

Dr H S Ballal, pro chancellor MAHE, Manipal in his presidential note stated, “I am happy to be part of this conference on physical education and science. MAHE along with academics gives importance to sports and other curricular activities, which is necessary for overall development of personality of students. MAHE has a huge indoor sports area ‘Marina’. Physical fitness is very important for mental fitness. Physical fitness plays a major role and helps to succeed.”

Dr Sharath K Rao, pro vice chancellor, Health Science, MAHE, Manipal, addressing the gathering said, “I have taken part in all three conferences held at MAHE, Manipal. NAPESS has immensely contributed to sports, which is evident in the medals received in Asian games and in Paralympics. Playing individual sports will help the students in how to accept the defeat and in team games students learn to respect other players and support players. Physical education helps in shaping the health, happiness and future of our society.”

Dr Giridhar Kini P, registrar, MAHE Manipal, released the International Conference on Physical Education and Sports Science (ICPESS) 2023 conference souvenir.

Exchange programme with Malaysia Institute of Technology and Health and Sports Science University, Thailand was signed by Prof Chinnappa Reddy, chief patron NAPESS in the conference.

Poornima Putran, associate Kasturba Hospital Manipal, graced the occasion by rendering invocation. Dr Pradeep Deshmukh, president NAPESS welcomed the gathering. Dr Padmakumar K, associate professor and HOD, corporate communication MIC, Manipal, preceded the conference. Dr Vinod Nayak, convener of ICPESS proposed the vote of thanks.

Prof Oleksandr Krasilshchikov, faculty of sports science and recreation, Universiti Teknologi MARA, Malaysia, NAPESS members from different countries, faculties and others were present.
