Udupi, Jul 18: Deputy commissioner (DC) Swaroopa T K issued a stern directive urging all Aadhaar card holders in the district to immediately link their mobile phone numbers with their Aadhaar. Chairing the district-level Aadhaar Monitoring Committee meeting held at the district magistrate’s office on Thursday, she emphasized the urgency and legal necessity of the task.
Out of 14,11,209 Aadhaar holders in Udupi district, 13,42,275 have already linked their mobile numbers — marking a progress rate of 68.93%. The DC appealed to the remaining individuals to complete the process at the earliest to avoid inconvenience.

Highlighting a critical concern, she stated that students aged 15 and above must visit Aadhaar centres to provide biometric data, especially fingerprints. A total of 41,115 students are yet to complete this process, and failure to do so could lead to the deactivation of their Aadhaar cards — severely affecting their ability to register for competitive and academic exams.
Aadhaar linkage has also been deemed essential for children enrolled in Anganwadi centres. Of the 45,832 children listed in the Poshan Tracker, only 33,425 possess Aadhaar. Parents of the remaining 11,947 children have been urged to ensure their immediate enrolment.
The DC raised serious concerns regarding the misuse of the Aadhaar system by individuals from other states and foreign countries who allegedly obtain Aadhaar through falsified documents. She warned that some people possess fake Aadhaar copies and advised citizens to verify Aadhaar cards by scanning the QR code. Police have been instructed to initiate strict legal proceedings against those who attempt to obtain Aadhaar fraudulently.
She acknowledged that name mismatches in birth certificates and school records are creating hurdles, especially for students, elderly individuals in old age homes, and bedridden persons with disabilities. She directed relevant officials to resolve such issues promptly and ensure that Aadhaar enrolment is made accessible to all.
UIDAI deputy director Gulshan Kumar Singh and assistant manager Mohammed Musab participated in the meeting via video conferencing. Additional superintendent of police Sudhakar Nayak, DDPI Maruti, district information officer Manjunath B, district disabled welfare officer Ratna, and several other district-level officials were present.
