Udupi, Dec 14: Malpe Beach, a popular tourist destination in Udupi district, is under the spotlight following a viral video depicting a group of beach boat operators chasing and assaulting tourists on December 13.

The crowded beach witnessed the disturbing scene as a video captured individuals on a beach boat aggressively chasing and attacking tourists. The footage, recorded by the beach's CCTV camera, has circulated widely on social media.

Two cases have been registered at Malpe police station in connection with the incident. One case states that locals intervened to stop a fight among tourists, while the other alleges an assault on tourists. Arun Suvarna, a resident of Bapu Thota, Malpe, filed a case accusing tourist boat operators of "playing with the lives of the tourists."

Responding to the situation, Udupi district Superintendent of Police, Dr Arun K, stated, "Yesterday evening between 5:45 pm and 6 pm, an altercation between two groups came to our attention. Based on the CCTV footage and a complaint from the home guard present at the spot, we have registered a case at Malpe police station. We are in the process of identifying the accused and will take legal action," he said.

These rogues might be habitually targeting outsiders/tourists who throng the beach and extort money from them using various devious methods; the outsiders having no Idea of the local laws and surroundings fall prey to these crooks, local law agencies may also be in the loop most times; these type of incidents are very common in third world.....
