Udupi, Dec 26: Padubidri police uncovered illicit blasting and transportation activities at a barren site near the Nandikur industrial area, close to Padubidri on Monday December 25. The operation, conducted without the necessary licenses, led to the confiscation of four tipper trucks, an excavator, a compressor tractor, and the explosives used for rock blasting. Authorities have arrested one individual in connection with the incident.
Acting on specific information, Sudarshan Doddamani, crime sub-inspector of Padubidri police station, and his team conducted a raid at the site. They discovered piles of blasted rock and tippers loaded with rock fragments. The police team observed drilled holes in the rock, with electrical wires connected to facilitate blasting. Manjunatha Naikar, found in the process of preparing for a blast, was taken into custody, while the tipper drivers managed to escape.
During the interrogation, Naikar revealed that the barren rock land belonged to a person named Ivan. He claimed that Ivan had subcontracted the blasting work to Veronica, also known as Shervin, without obtaining the necessary licenses for the operation.
Padubidri police have taken legal action by registering a case against the landowner, Ivan, the contractor Veronica (Sherwin), Manjunatha Naikar, and others involved in the unauthorized blasting and transportation activities.
