Monthi Fest Celebrated in Uganda
Fr Stephen Lewis
Uganda, Sep 10: Monthi Fest was celebrated with great joy in Uganda for the first time on Thursday September 8.
The Capuchin Friars, from Mangalore, who are Missionaries in Uganda celebrated Monthi Fest along with a few Konkani speaking religious sisters and people who live around Kampala (capital of Uganda).
The Holy Eucharistic Celebration was presided over by the Major Superior of the Capuchin Friars in Uganda, Fr John Fernandes, in which other Konkani speaking Capuchin Friars joined.
This is for the first time Mangaloreans in Uganda came together to celebrate this feast of Blessed Mother. As in Mangalore, paddy corns were blessed, and devotees had lunch together with a variety of vegetables (19 types), with Orn (Piasam) and all were given the sugarcane.
