Kundapura, Jan 2: Byndoor MLA Gururaj Gantihole has welcomed the central government's decision to increase the minimum support price for copra.
"This decision of the central government will help the coconut farmers who are in trouble due to the decline in coconut storage. The Union Cabinet headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved the decision to increase the support price after realising the plight of coconut farmers in the country", he said, adding that the decision of the Modi government has brought happiness to the coconut farmers of the country including those living in the coastal region.
The central government has increased the minimum support price of milled coconut by Rs 300 per quintal and the MSP of lump coconut to Rs 250 per quintal. This decision was taken in the cabinet committee meeting of the central government held on Wednesday.
The minimum support price of milling copra for the 2024 season has also been increased to Rs 11,160 per quintal. At the same time, the price of good quality lump coconut has been increased to Rs 12,000.
