Udupi/Bantwal: Followers Celebrate ‘Guru Narayan Jayanti’

Udupi, Sep 12: ‘Guru Narayan Jayanti’ celebrations were held in several Jnana Mandiras and worship centres across the district on Sunday September 11.
 
Special ‘pujas’ were offered to Guru Narayan across the district including Vishwanat temple - Katpady, Billavar Sahayaka Sangh – Kaup, Narayan Guru Sabha Mandir – Shirva, Billawar Sangh – Muloor, Narayan Guru Jnana Mandir – Ucchila, and Narayan Guru Mandir – Padubidri.


 Yuvavahini – Katpady, Billava Parishat, and Seva Dal – Katpady, held a motorcycle rally on the occasion.
 
State minister Dr V S Acharya inaugurated the fundraising campaign for religious programmes by Koti Chennaya Gymnasium and Billawar Sahayaka Sangh in Kaup.
 
Former MP and AICC general secretary Vinay Kumar Sorake and ZP president Katpady Shankar Poojary were felicitated on the same occasion.
 
Former state minister Vasant V Salian presided over the programme.
 
Entrepreneur Manohar Shetty and Kaup gram panchayat president Yogish Rai were the chief guests on the occasion.
 
Kaup Billavar Sahayaka Sangh president Shekar Salian, secretary Madhav Palan, and office-bearers were also present.

Bantwal, Sep 12: “Religious fervour is vanishing in the society due to the onslaught of globalization and privatisation that has posed a hindrance to cultural practices” said journalist Manohar Prasad.
 
He was delivering the keynote address during the 157th celebration of ‘Narayan Guru Jayanti’ during a function held at B C Road here on Sunday, under the aegis of taluk Billawa Samaja Seva Sangh.


 

He called on the students not to be addicted to mobile phones during their studies and expressed displeasure over rising family break-ups caused due to mobile phone use.
 
Taluk Billawa Samaja Seva Sangh president Sesappa Kotian presided over the programme.
 
The Billawa community’s elected ZP and TP members were felicitated on the same occasion.  Scholarships were distributed to talented students of the community during the programme.
 
All India Billawa Federation spokesperson K Harikrishna Bantwal delivered the introductory address.
 
Taluk Billawa Samaja Seva Sangh office-bearers Raghav Amin, B Girish Poojary, Taranat K, Premanat, and K B Tammayya were present on the dais.
 
Rajesh compered the programme. Guru Ganesh Arts Troupe and taluk Yuvavahini unit members staged various cultural shows as part of the entertainment programme.
