Mangalore, Sep 13: During the day on Monday, rainfall remained sparse in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts. However, the late evening drizzle turned into downpour after dusk, and continued through the night.

The climate turned cloudy in the evening after sunny weather since morning. Regular rains have threatened prospects of paddy, areca nut, cocoa, and rubber harvests.

Subrahmanya in Sullia taluk recorded nine cm of rain, highest in the state. The other places in the coast received an average of two to three cm of rain.

A release by the meteorological department has warned the fishermen that it expects strong winds to blow over the coast during the next 24 hours, and that rains are also expected to gain momentum in a couple of days. It expects rains to visit most places in the coast, a few places in southern hinterland, and a couple of regions in northern hinterland during this period.
