Mangalore, Sep 13: Noting that residential and commercial complexes are being constructed even in places falling under town panchayats and gram panchayats, Dakshina Kannada zilla panchayat chief executive officer, Dr K N Vijay Prakash, instructed the officials to ensure that building rules and bylaws are strictly adhered to even in towns and rural belts of the district, just like in the city. He was speaking while tabling the proceedings of the previous meeting at the Karnataka Development Programme meeting held here on Monday September 14.

The meeting was presided over by zilla panchayat president, K T Shylaja Bhat.

Vijay Prakash further stated that is mandatory for every house or building to leave sufficient space for road purposes. While asking officials of Mangalore Urban Development Authority and executive officers of taluk panchayat to take steps in this direction, he said separate guidelines in this regard will soon be sent to them.

Standing committee chairman, Eshwar Kateel, noted that in many cases, compound walls transgress the rules and wanted to make it compulsory to obtain licence even for building compound walls.

Relating to various problems brought forth by people’s representatives and chairmen of standing committees, Vijay Prakash advised officials to come up with specific replies to such complaints rather than shirking from responsibility by claiming that the matter has been referred to junior officials for action.

The officials sought support of everyone for the success of Skill Development and Job Fair being organized on September 24 and 25 at T M A Pai Convention Centre in the city.

Zilla panchayat vice-president, Dhanalakshmi Janardhan, chief planning officer, Muhammed Nazir, and in-charge chief accounts officer, Prabhakar Rao, were among those present.
