Mangaluru: Notorious rowdy 'Akash Bhavan' Sharan attacks chasing cops with weapon, gets shot

Mangaluru, Jan 9: The police reportedly shot in the leg of the notorious rowdy 'Akash Bhavan' Sharan on Tuesday, January 9 while he was trying to escape from getting arrested. The shootout took place on a private property at Kudupadi in Jeppu when he tried to attack the police .

Earlier, the CCB team had received information about 'Akash Bhavan' Sharan hiding in a friend's room in Malpe. But few moments before they reached the hideout, Sharan escaped from Malpe in Udupi in a white I10 car.

The CCB police detained the friend who had given shelter to Sharan and interrogated him who informed them about the accused travelling in the I10 car.

Police tracked Sharan via CCTV camera near Hejamady, Surathkal toll and set out on a chase after him. The cops sighted him near Pumpwell driving the car alone and went after him. On seeing the police Sharan sped away and stopped the car at a private place on Jeppu Kudupadi road.

The eight CCB policemen on his pursuit in a private car reached the spot and surrounded Sharan's car. Sharan attacked constable Prakash with a knife when the later came to catch him.

To defend the constable PSI Sudeep fired at Sharan's leg. The forensic experts are currently examining the spot. City police commissioner Anupam Agarwal visited the spot gathered information from the CCB team who captured Sharan.

He has been admitted to a private hospital in Kankanady for treatment.

Sharan is currently said to be recovering from the bullet injury in his leg. Police commissioner Anupam Agarwal also visited the hospital to gather information from the doctors about rowdy sheeter Sharan's condition. 

As many as 21 criminal cases including murder, attempt to murder, POCSO, robbery, theft and rape cases have been registered against him. Sharan was an accused in the murder of KVG polytechnic administrator Ramakrishna.

He had recently crashed his car into a police vehicle and had attempted to murder before fleeing from the scene.
