Unplanned road humps pose threat to motorists in heart of Udupi city

Daijiworld Media Network – Udupi (JD)

Udupi, Jan 17: The city is currently grappling with a safety concern as haphazardly constructed road humps in the central area have transformed into a potential accident zone.

Against the backdrop of the Udupi Paryaya event, extensive road repair and asphalting work have been initiated across various sections of Udupi city. However, amidst these developments, road humps have been hastily installed in the core of Udupi, particularly in front of the Udupi court complex on Kavi Muddana Marg. This poorly executed installation has triggered public outcry, especially since the affected road is a major thoroughfare experiencing high volumes of both pedestrian and vehicular traffic.

This critical road, extending from Kinnimulki Swagata Gopura to locations such as old taluk office, Kalpana, Alankar, service and city bus stations, spans approximately 3 kilometres. Surprisingly, no road humps were present along this route until the abrupt and unprepared installation in front of the court complex.

The consequences of this rushed decision became evident on the very first day when a motorcyclist, unaware of the newly placed humps, skidded and suffered severe injuries, necessitating hospitalization. Within a few days, eight accidents have occurred in this area. One incident involved a car on last Thursday night, resulting in significant damage to the vehicle's front upon colliding with the unanticipated hump.

In response to these incidents, there is a growing demand from the public for the prompt removal of these hazardous road humps, which pose a clear danger to motorists.

This is very rampant in Mangalore which is strangely labelled as as smart City. Strange because they don't have funds to fill holes in three roads but plenty of funds for putting these humps. Another problem is the indiscriminate division of roads and installation of dividers. There were no dividers in busy narrow road earlier. But the same are now often thrice the size and roads and people along with vehicles are getting divided and strangely bumps are also installed.I feel there is some misguided"smart" official who is doing those and the others are blindly following it. Pz use some maturity when ordering for installation of humps and dividers esp when you label it as a smart decision. Whoever has backed this should realise there after effects of this decision. There are so many cases of broken vehicles, broken bones, all because a few people are inconvenienced in the name of a "common man and small children" who usually don't apply their mind when they cross a busy road. And don't care as well. But if there is an accident because of them the public will get together to to lynch the driver. Officials should stand on any road an see for themselves the ratio of the amount of ppl and the number of vehicles on the road before panding to the " common man". And it should be noted there are many many ppl traveling and using the vehicles as well,

These look far better and sensible than those found elsewhere. One such is the killer road hump in Hunsur, on highway 275. How could the officials be blind and ignorant to see such humps totally damaging to vehicles and humans commuting by vehicles.

These road hums were very much helpful , essential and absolutely a requirement to this most busiest road which is called court road. Maximum vehicles are always in high speed . Sometimes school children has to wait 5 to 7 min to cross the road . Very sad to know that the hums have been removed . This was a great help for school children and also passers who visit court. Hope these humps will be installed soon .

This was done may be to help road passers who visit court. But sudden fixing humps without any sign of warning that there is humps ahead before the humps should have been there. This is very dangerous.

How can any call these road humps unscientific?... It has the mandatory warning road markings and built with a gradual rise and descent... And these road humps are necessary as several people cross the roads in front of the court complex and many are elderly and students... Only thing lacking is prior warning signs and they must be installed asap... This is in fact a gift to general public... Vehicle owners must concentrate on roads and watch their speed on this crucial junction used by umpteen number of pedestrians...
