Udupi, Sep 16: President of Udupi zillal panchayat, Katapadi Shankar Poojary, directed the executive officers of all the taluk panchayats in the district to identify people who have been residing in government and private lands unauthorizedly since a long time, and furnish a list thereof to the zilla panahcyat.

He was speaking after presiding over the progress review meeting of various schemes under Karnataka Development Programme, held on Thursday September 15, at the zilla panchayat auditorium.

The taluk panchayat executive officers informed him that the gram panchayats have been given clear instructions to ensure that those who are occupying land as above are not driven out, and also asking them to properly review the list already prepared.

Poojary instructed the superintending engineer of public works department to repair the main roads in Katapadi, which have been extensively damaged due to rains. He also asked the forest department to cut down branches of trees standing by the side of the roads, which are extending on the roads. The officials of water resources department said that the department has already identified spots for building 1,936 foot bridges and vented dams in 100 gram panchayats. They promised to place a list thereof in the next KDP meeting.

District health officer, Dr Ramachandra Bairy, said that no malaria cases were reported from the town and that nine malaria cases were reported from Padubidri and surrounding villages during this season. Joint director of agriculture, B Y Srinivas, noted that the district has so far received 4,174 mm rain during this season, as against the average of rainfall of 3,877 mm.

Zilla panchayat vice-president, Jyoti S Shetty, chairman of education and health standing committee, K Babu Shetty, chairman of social justice standing committee, Upendra Nayak, chief programme officer, Vijayakumar Shetty, and chief accounts officer, Timmappa, were present.
