Sullia: Police Custody for Former GP President

Sullia, Sep 17: Relating to misappropriation of funds of the gram panchayat (GP) detected during last year, the local court remanded Markanja GP former president, Shivaram Doddihitlu, to police custody.

Initially, Doddihitlu was sent to judicial custody. As the policemen came up with a request for police custody of the accused for his interrogation and investigation, the court gave its nod, by remanding him to five days police custody.

The zilla panchayat officials, during scrutiny, had found that Doddihitlu, in connivance with GP secretary, Prem Singh, and clerk, Keshava, had committed irregularities to the tune of about Rs 40 lac during last year. Agreeing with the findings of this inquiry, the district deputy commissioner had ordered filing of criminal case against the GP president. The policemen, who initially succeeded in arresting Keshava followed by Prem Singh, arrested Shivaram recently.
