Bengaluru mother-daughter electrocution case: BJP demands minister K J George's resignation

Bengaluru, Feb 8 (IANS): Karnataka BJP has demanded the resignation of Minister for Power, K.J. George, in connection with the electrocution case in which mother-daughter were burnt alive in a public place in Bengaluru.

Leader of the Opposition R. Ashoka said on Thursday that Minister George had irresponsibly stated that ‘rat menace’ was responsible for the death of the mother and daughter due to electrocution.

“There is no value for the life of a common man under the Congress government. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah should take the resignation of Minister George and initiate action against the officers who are found guilty,” he demanded.

Soundarya, 23, and her nine-month-old baby, Suvikasha, were burnt alive after stepping on a snapped electric wire while walking on the footpath near Hope Farm Junction on Whitefield Main Road, located 100 meters from the Bengaluru Electricity Supply Company (Bescom) office on November 19.

There was huge outrage over the incident demanding stringent action against the negligent Bescom officers.

Authorities had initially taken the officers into custody and claimed that they were arrested. It was alleged that even an hour after the tragedy, the authorities had not arrived at the scene. It was also alleged that the wire had snapped on the pavement on a night before the incident day.

Soundarya was returning home in Bengaluru with her 9-month-old daughter and husband Santhosh Kumar after celebrating Diwali in Tamil Nadu. She stepped on the snapped 11 kV electric wire on the pavement, causing both her and her baby to burn alive. Even as Santhosh tried to save them, he also received an electric shock and fell unconscious. Later, he said that instead of helping, the public was busy recording the tragedy on their mobile phones.

The government had announced Rs 5 lakh compensation to the family.

Travel to some very interior parts of the state and see the sordid conditions of how the power is supplied and also the gujjuri quality of equipment used; absolutely no safety standards adhered to; only Divine Providence can keep the inhabitants of these places safe from getting electrocuted accidentally especially during the monsoon season!!😞😞🙏

Sure it was tragody.Previous Govt.still dont accept that they lost power and use eachtime to bring present govt.to bring down. Why should minister resign for Electric dept.failure?Of course electricity dept has to react and file case on them and arrest the person who is responsible.People too first look on the road and walk instead of looking on only mobile?(I dont mean they did it)Even other onlookers first make a foto instead of hurrying to helpand wait for Ambulance.People should change their ways towards helping others.

If you look at the disasters under BJP both in state and centre there would be no BJP party in India If they did what they are preaching . In Karnataka they run like headless chickens every day with new slogans to attract their masters.

This third rate and highly corrupt power utility suppliers in this state have been ruling the roost with their third class (extremely unsafe) infrastructure since time immemorial; I can't understand why the present administration is being singled out for this particular incident! Almost every week somebody or the other perishes due to electrocution; the worst is that many of their own service personnel die to fatal electric shocks (then what sort of safety do you expect for the innocent and gullible public); it's high time these Escoms are shown the door and their operations handed over to some world class power utility companies like Tata, Reliance, BEST or their likes before more innocent people get killed! Please note that the above is a very personal opinion based on my knowledge and perception; please do not believe in anybody's personal opinion without doing your own research and analysis 🙏🙏

Whys should KJ George resign? Did Modi resign after the Morbi bridge collapse that killed 135 people and injuries to more than 180, or after 296 people were killed in the crash and more than 1,200 others were injured when three trains collided in Balasore district in Odisha state?

Nonsensical demand indeed! After that incident a survey found that there are more than 25000+ dangerous spots inside Bengluru city itself; and they invite investment from world class companies; pathetic state of affairs...worst than third world places 😔
