Delhi, Feb 9: Chandrajyoti Singh surprised everyone by cracking the toughest civil services examination in her first attempt, achieving a stunning All India Rank (AIR) of 28 in 2019, all without any coaching.

Chandrajyoti took her parents as her role models, as both her father and mother have served in the Indian Army. Her father, Dalbara Singh, is a retired Colonel, and her mother, Lt Col Meena Singh, is a retired Army radiologist. They supported her wholeheartedly in her pursuit to become an IAS officer.

Due to her parents' continuous transfers, Chandrajyoti attended schooling in various cities. She completed her 10th grade at APJ School, Jalandhar, achieving a perfect CGPA of 10. In the 12th board exam, she secured 95.4% from Bhawan Vidyalaya, Chandigarh. She then moved to Delhi for her graduation and earned dual degrees at St Stephen's College, with a BA in History and a minor in Political Science, achieving a high CGPA of 7.73.

Chandrajyoti took a one-year break after her graduation to prepare for the UPSC examination. She devoted six to eight hours every day to self-study during the initial stages. As the examination approached, she increased her study hours to ten per day. Finally, her efforts and meticulous approach towards the examination paid off, and she cleared the UPSC in her first attempt.

After completing her two-year training in Mussorie, Chandrajyoti was posted as an assistant secretary in the ministry of external affairs. She joined the Punjab government in October 2022 and currently serves as a Sub-Divisional Magistrate in Sultanpur Lodhi.
