Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi (JD)

Udupi, Feb 11: A gang of youths launched a violent assault on the vehicle of an on-duty police sub-inspector from the Malpe police station and a home guard in an incident reported from Hoode, under the jurisdiction of the Malpe police station.

According to the complaint filed at the Malpe Police station, Sub Inspector Sushma, along with Home Guard Javed, had undertaken routine patrols in Thottam, Gujjarabettu, Kadike, Badanidiyur areas within the police station limits. Upon reaching Hoode at approximately 02:15 in the night, they encountered 4-5 individuals loudly yelling near a school in Hoode. Upon spotting the police jeep, 2-3 individuals fled the scene, while the remaining 2 confronted the officers near the schoolyard. The duo proceeded to approach the departmental jeep, threatening the officers' lives and blocking the vehicle. One assailant, identified as Saqlain, armed himself with a large rock and a rod, declaring his intent to kill the sub-inspector, and proceeded to strike the jeep's glass. Simultaneously, another person hurled stones, prompting the officers to escape to the Shalegudde area of Hoode.

The on-duty police officers, in uniform, faced obstruction in carrying out their duties, and the departmental jeep sustained damage during the incident.

A case has been registered at the Malpe police station in connection with this attack.

Such incidents are on a rise along the beach stretch of entire Mangalore. The local goonda's in these areas feel that the entire beach is their property and no one is allowed to enter these areas. This will drastically reduce tourism in the near future and in turn is going to affect the locals. Police should take very strict action against these gangs and increase the night patrols in these areas. This can also be attributed to the recent rise in intolerance in Mangalore / Udupi due to a particular political party.

I agree with you..People may call me sexist but thats the difference between a Male police officer and a Female Police Officer.Equality is great but sometimes you need raw courage and swift decision to deal with scumbag menace like these as primarily men and women are emotionally, physically and rationally very different from each other..
