Mangaluru: 34-year-old killed in bus-two wheeler collision

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (MS)

Mangaluru, Feb 12: A two wheeler rider died as his vehicle was hit by a KSRTC bus near Arkula Dwara at Adyar on national highway on Sunday February 11.

The deceased is identified as Charanraj (34), a local resident. He was entering the highway from the inner road, when he was hit by the bus.

Charanraj, who had been married for just a year and is survived by wife and child. He was the only son of his parents.

Anger and frustration among locals boiled over as they blocked traffic, decrying the lack of safety measures taken by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). Their grievances were exacerbated by the absence of adequate safety precautions and alleged unscientific work on the highway.

The accident spot had a barricade intended to control the speed of vehicles, but it had fallen down after being struck by a vehicle the previous night. This allowed the bus to approach at high speed, leading to the fatal collision. Shockingly, locals claim that more than ten fatalities have occurred in similar circumstances following road construction by the NHAI.

This tragic incident echoes a similar accident last December when another bike rider lost his life at the same location due to a collision with a bus. Despite repeated pleas from residents, local authorities have failed to address their concerns.

These metal barriers, some with no hazard flashing lights, are some idiots idea on the freeway! First question to ask is how these barriers are allowed, they dont control speed but are kept in such a way that accidents are bound to happen, especially from these speeding buses, both private and of KSRTC. Most of the small villages have no cross over access on the high way like an underpass like in most countries. It is said that big business people have objected to construct such underpasses as it will have ill effects on their business.

Mangnauru to BC road express way is very precariously designed and layed if you see the absence of any space in between the highways and adjacent houses; forget walkway for pedestrians and service road for stranded vehicles; with all the randomly placed metal barrier 🚧s at the localites whims and fancies, this expert way has a very high probability of fatal accidents if corrective measures are not implemented; incidentally, from Fpete area to BC road one can find number of 🐐🐐 goats grazing on the grass growing on the side walls of cutouts extremely proximal to the roads; NO DOUBT ONE SHOULD TRAVERSE THIS ROAD ONLY WITH A BIG INSURANCE COVER IN CASE YOUR FAVOURITE GUARDIAN ANGELS FAIL TO PROTECT YOU 🙏

Riders and drivers should wait and proceed while entering a main road specially while entering a highway. Riders and drivers just enter without waiting and proceeding and later blame the vehicle which is speeding on the main road or the highway.

There is no value for life. We have to blame ourselves as well as our useless administration. In such a place where repeatedly accidents take place, public must join together and make arrangements like speed breakers or humps doing as a social work for the socity,

National Highways are for travelling without any hurdles. These two wheelers do not know the high way traffic rules including the transport division. Vehicles are entering the highways from the inner roads in a very high speed. First put as many rumblers as possible in the inner roads and narrow down the entries.

It is a highway and people pay toll to use that road. For vehicle taking turn towards Mangalore, there should be an alternate way including say a underpass to cross and safely join the highway. And for those joining the highway towards Parangipete also a service road which merges to highway is desirable. The barricades are effective if vehicles slow down. Several accidents involving KSRTC buses indicate that KSRTC must be made to pay through their nose for this.

Who is designing and laying these killer highways with public money? Those responsible should be taken to task!! Laying highways without any adherence to safety protocols just to create world records and show to the gullible public is all balderdash!! PLEASE CHECK OUR RANK IN RTA DEATHS, AND YOU WILL GET AN IDEA ABOUT HOW SAFE OUR ROADWAYS ARE?? PLEASE CHECK OUT IN WHICH COUNTRY HIGHWAYS HAVE BARRIERS OR PERIODIC SPEED BREAKERS IN PLACE??

Dear Rudolf Rodrigues, Mumbai -Mangalore, Let us not get into blame game. General level of education about roads and implication of high speeds is lacking. With widening of roads and addition of lane, motorists are taking it as free license for over speeding. The design like arkula junction is especially only in Dhakshina Kannada (arkula, parangipete, Thumbe, malali junction you name it) and Udupi (Padubidri for example). All the places along Bangalore Mangalore highway passing through Hassan and Sakleshpura have complied. There is a overbridge, service road which provide free flow for long distance traffic. The Mangalore BC Road toll came much earlier than these roads and there is still not signs of such compliance commensurate with state highway.
