The suggestions given by Jhonson are really applicable and I request the
organising committee to give a positive approach for the same. There should be 2 seperate
categories for Devotional hymns and folk songs.

While I congratulate Maand Sobhan for instituting these awards to promote Konkani music, I want to make some points or suggestions here , its left to the committee to take it or leave it..

1.Remix albums should be kept out of the race, awarding the best singers and best arrangers title for remix song singers will be fair but considering remixes for best lyrics/ composers and album will be unfair(because they are old and previously released), it will definitely lead to a wrong kind of development, where in young composers of today may opt to remix the old songs with good lyrics and tune, which will result in the decrease of creativity in composing new songs instead these awards should inspire people to make new original quality music.(am not trying to tell remix is not fair but it should not be promoted at the cost of original music) or else the best way to recognize remix may be instituting a separate category for remixes. Comparing remixes and originals in the same category is totally unfair this is not even done in the Filmares, Grammies or anyother music awards. Remixes should be recognized separately. Maand Sobhan being a premier cultural organization with eminent musicians should not give scope for such technical errors in the rules, this will reduce the credibility of awards.

2.Maand Sobhan being the institutor of the award should remain out from the competition and if it continues to compete for the award, the credibility of the award itself will decrease.

3.Religious/ devotional music should be kept out of the competition or else it should be awarded separately its simply unfair to compare and treat independent music from different genres like classical, semi classical, folk, baila, rock, pop, jazz and to compare with devotional( which is liturgical most of the times with some exceptions) injustice will be done to both devotional and non devotional albums.
The idea of instituting these awards to honor Konkani music and promote it is indeed a great thought and should be applauded but some rules in the press release are pathetic. Organizers must consult experts before doing this.

    Kind regards,
    Johnson
