Mangaluru, Feb 17: DYFI Ullal zonal president Razak Montepadavu accused that a member of Balepuni gram panchayat, who is involved in land encroachment by offering licence to quarry owners, has failed in providing fundamental infrastructure to the public.

A protest was staged with water jars by women and DYFI members in front of the office of Balepuni gram panchayat as drinking water is not supplied regularly to residents of Navagrama site and Kukkudakatte.

The protesters said, “Gram panchayat member is not listening to the woes of people who have not got drinking water supply. How women and children can survive without water? People of Navagrama site and Kukkudakatte are not able to provide drinking water to anyone. It is really sad that the gram panchayat development officer is not giving attention. Roads are in bad condition and vehicles cannot run on them. Public is put to inconvenience by half concretization and half Asphaltization of roads.

“Members of Balepuni gram panchayat are busy in land encroachment. They have given licences to quarry owners on government land. If we do not get solution to our problems soon, we will lock the gate of gram panchayat office and hold protest in a severe manner," they said.

Razak Mudipu, vice president of DYFI, Nisar Mudipu, secretary, Tauseema, vice president, Hussain Montepadavu, Madhavi and Tulasi were present.
