Mumbai, Sep 24: “Although environmentalists posed hurdles in the undivided Dakshina Kannada district over industrialization, Jayakrishna Parisara Premi Samiti (JSKPPS) – an NGO has succeeded in its agenda 11 years of its existence. The leaders of various communities of undivided Dakshina Kannada district supported the JSKPPS in its endeavour,” said Tonse Jayakrishna A Shetty, founder president, JSKPPS.
He was speaking at the sixth annual general body meeting of the Samiti held at Hotel Silver Inna auditorium, Marol, Andheri (East), on Thursday September 22.
“It’s due to the efforts of the Samiti and the support of the Karnataka government that Udupi Power Corporation Limited (UPCL) has been generating electricity that meets 80 percent of the needs of undivided Dakshina Kannada district. The Samiti has taken up the struggle of local farmers against the environmental pollution caused by UPCL by taking up the issue with chief minister D V Sadanand Gowda, Udupi district-in-charge minister Dr V S Acharya, and Kaup MLA Lalaji R Mendon to address the grievances of peasants,” added Jayakrishna Shetty.
Samiti vice-presidents lawyers Sanjeev S Kanchan and B Mohideen Mundkoor, Balakrishna P Bhandary, P K Salian, and Jagannat M Ganiga were present on the dais.
The Samiti’s former president Vishwanat U Mada, honorary secretaries Harish Kumar M Shetty and P Dhananjay Shetty, joint secretary Tonse Sanjeev Poojary, honorary joint treasurer Chandrashekar Belchada, former president lawyer B Subash Shetty, and former treasurer R B R Rao were also present on the occasion.
The annual get-together of Devadiga Sangh was held after the general body meeting of the Samiti. Speaking on the occasion, Devadiga Sangh president Hiriyadka Mohandas commended the honest efforts of Jayasrikrishna Shetty in founding JSKPPS.
JAVAB president Papillion Raghu L Shetty, lawyer John D’Silva, Maharastra Konkan Association president Walter D’Souza Kalmady, founder Leo Fernandes Jerimeri, Sapalya Seva Sangh president Narayan R Mendon, Seva Bharati president Jaya K Shetty, Christian Harry R Sequeira of Chamber of Commerce and Industry, entrepreneurs K C Shetty, Pandu S Shetty, lawyer Shekar Bhandary, Tonse AshokShetty, Bhaskar Sarapady, K K Mohandas, Babu S Shetty Malad, P Ramesh, and S K Sriyan were present.
Samiti president Jayakrishna Shetty was felicitated on the same occasion. The Samiti’s honorary secretary G T Acharya proposed the vote of thanks.
Samiti vice-president Dharmapal U Devadiga welcomed the gathering. Honorary chief secretary Nityanand D Kotian presented the annual report.
