Mangaluru, Feb 21: On February 21st 2024, the students of grade I E and D at Mount Carmel Central School, Mangaluru enthusiastically celebrated International Mother Language Day, showcasing the linguistic diversity and aiming to honour linguistic diversity and promote multilingualism.
The entire programme was a vibrant display of various languages spoken in Mangaluru, with students presenting in Kannada, Hindi, Konkani, Tulu, Malayalam and Tamil. A prayer service reflecting the spiritual essence of the occasion, followed by a welcome dance, symbolizing the joy and unity in diversity was performed. The students then warmly welcomed the audience in different languages, setting the tone for a culturally enriching experience. The chief guest Dr Sangeetha K, a gynecological Oncologist was accorded a warm welcome by a group of students. Her presence added prestige to the event, emphasizing the significance of preserving and celebrating linguistic heritage. The highlight of the programme was a captivating skit performed by students, showcasing the richness and cultural nuances of each language represented. Through creative storytelling and dance, the students fostered a deeper appreciation for mother languages among the audience.
