Bengaluru, Feb 25: The budget session of the state legislature, which was scheduled to end on Friday, February 23, is likely to be extended till Wednesday, February 28, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah indicated on Sunday.

The session could not be held on Friday as the Chief Minister was indisposed and was extended by a day to February 26, Monday.

However, following the demise of the sitting MLA Venkatappa Naik on Sunday, the Monday’s session will be convened to mourn the death of the sitting MLA and adjourn thereafter as a mark of respect.

With Rajya Sabha polls for the four seats from the State taking place on Tuesday, February 27, Siddaramaiah said the session will have to be extended till Wednesday, February 28.

Earlier in the morning, the chief minister visited the Manipal Hospital to pay his last respects to the deceased MLA.

He described the deceased MLA as “the most honest and diligent legislator who tirelessly worked for his constituency.”
