Karkala, Sep 26: In an accident that occurred on the night of Saturday September 24 at Kukkundoor village in the taluk, two bike-borne men lost their lives. They have been identified as Nityanand Nayak (25), a native of Bailoor village, and pillion rider, Ganesh (44), who was from Hassan.

The two were moving towards Karkala from Bailoor in the two-wheeler, when a tempo coming from the direction of Hebri took a right turn towards Bailoor unexpectedly. Nityanand suffered grave injuries to his chest, while deep wounds were inflicted on the head of Ganesh. Both of them were taken to the local hospital, but Nityanand lost his life before reaching the hospital. Ganesh was provided first aid, and was admitted to Manipal Hospital. Without responding to treatments, he breathed his last at the hospital.

Nityanand was the only son of Nagappa Nayak, a farmer from Nirebailoor. He had been working as the operator of a compressor in a stone quarry near here. He is survived by parents and two sisters. His family is very poor, and Nityanand’s death has left his close ones shattered.

Ganesh from Hassan, who owns a number of compressors, was married. He had leased out some compressors installed in Karkala taluk. He had visited the taluk on Saturday to collect lease charges, and Nityanand was escorting him to the bus stand on his return journey, it is learnt.

A case was registered in the town police station here.
