Mangaluru, Mar 1: SCS Riverside International Academy (a unit of SCS group of institutions) celebrates its maiden annual day here at Urwa campus on Friday March 1.

Addressing the gathering, consultant psychiatrist Dr Krithishree Somana discussed gentle parenting, emphasizing that it is not about dictating what the child wants to be. While some parents may adopt strict approaches and resort to scolding, she highlighted the importance of parents controlling their emotions. Dr Somana noted that even when disciplining children, parents tend to resort to hitting or scolding, which is the wrong approach. She stressed that children have self-respect and should not be hurt or demeaned in front of others, as it can adversely affect their identity.

She also said, "We should refrain from threatening children to do things or pressuring them to act quickly, as this can foster anxiety traits in them."

In his presidential remarks, president Dr Rajneesh Sorake said, "It is an emotional moment for all of us as this school completes one year. The students have truly excelled and brought great honour to this institution. We are committed to providing opportunities for students to actively participate in activities, and those who lack confidence in public speaking or performing will be encouraged. This will bring about a significant transformation in our teaching process."

Principal Helen Lobo read out the annual report of SCS Riverside International Academy.

The students performed dance, skits, instrumental music, Punjabi and garba dance and group song.

Riaan Raj and Diya Poojai welcomed the gathering. Anjali Shenoy rendered vote of thanks.

Secretary Dr Abhinay Sorake, administrative officer U K Khalid and others were present.
