Udupi, Mar 2: "As per the regulations of the election commission, prior approval from the competent authority is mandatory before publicity of elections by means of handbills and advertisements," said deputy commissioner (DC) Dr K Vidyakumari.
She was speaking after presiding over a meeting of cable operators and network service providers about the regulations to be followed preventing violations of the election code of conduct. The meeting was held at the deputy commissioner's office Rajatadri, Manipal on Saturday March 2.
She further said, "The elections will be announced in a few days and the election code of conduct will be enforced. Everybody who is involved in election related activities should ensure that the election code of conduct is not violated.
"Printing press owners should obtain approval three days before printing handbills. The name of the printers and the number of copies printed should be mentioned without fail. The cost of printing should also be provided.
"The matter should not have errors, insults to others, detrimental to the honour of others. It should not spoil the peace in the society, state ill about other religions or insults. Legal action will be taken as per RP Act against those who print handbills violating model code of conduct.
"Everybody should cooperate to hold just and peaceful Lok Sabha elections in the district following the rules and regulations of the election commission,” she stated.
District SP Dr Arun K, additional DC Mamatha Devi GS, district spokesperson Manjunath B, cable network reporters, printing press owners and others were present.
