Mangaluru: SJEC holds 'Go for Gold-2024' annual athletic meet

Mangaluru, Mar 6: St Joseph Engineering College (SJEC), Mangaluru, celebrated 'Go for Gold-2024', its annual athletic meet at the college grounds on Wednesday March 6, organized by the department of physical education wellness and sports group.

Athletics coach Bhakshith Salian was the chief guest on the occasion who inaugurated the event by hoisting the flag.

A colourful march-past by students was presented after which the hoisting of the flag by the dignitaries took place. As a symbolic gesture, students who participated in national level sports events were handed over the burning torch by the guest, post which the chief guest declared the meet open.

Addressing the gathering, Bhakshith Salian urged students to choose sports for fitness purpose, as it will be very helpful from the health perspective.

An oath was administered by captain of college hockey team Alva Shwetha Shivprasad.

Director St Joseph Engineering college Fr Wilfred Prakash D’Souza, principal Dr Rio D’Souza, vice principal Dr Purushottam Chippar, assistant director Fr Kenneth R Crasta, physical education director Vaneesha V Rodrigues, and sports advisor Chitharanjan M were present.

Chairperson, wellness and sports group SJEC Florence Nishmitha welcomed the gathering, sports advisor Priya Miranda proposed vote of thanks, and Joel D’Mello and Rachana Crasta compered the event.
