Kundapur: Nightmare for Taxi Drivers - Defrauding Duo in Police Custody

Kundapur, Sep 28: Khousalya (39), and her brother, Vasu alias Yogish (37), both of whom used to defraud taxi drivers in different ways, were taken into custody by the local policemen on Tuesday September 27. They are natives of the taluk.

The duo used to hire taxies in the guise of touring various places. They then befriended the drivers, presented before them hypothetical stories of their miseries, and often borrowed money from them with the promise of returning the same. There are also allegations that they offered beverages mixed with intoxicants to drivers and robbed them in some cases. Their area of operation is spread from Shimoga to Kasargod, it is gathered.

Recently, the two were arrested by Kasargod police when they had used similar trick at Manjeshwar. They were then taken into custody by policemen of Konaje station. Now, they are in the custody of the local police. Based on a recent complaint against them, local sub-inspector of police, Jonhson D’Souza, crime sub-inspector, Timma Shetty, and other personnel have been questioning her.

The lady has been claiming that she is a relative of local MLA. She also behaved erratically, tearing her clothes apart, clattering incoherently, and acting like an insane person, the policemen said.

Yogish is from Hallady Harkady in the taluk. Various cases have been filed against these two at Bhandravati, Basrur, Kasargod, Konaje, Udupi, etc relating to similar crimes.
