Vittal, Mar 7: Mani grama panchayat member Melwin Kishore Martis and his wife Shanti Martis who arrived by a car at Mani junction here have robbed a person of a gold chain weighing five sovereigns from the victim's neck and a purse of the person who was travelling on a bike on March 5.

The couple later allegedly hurled expletives at the victim and posed death threats to the victim.

Stephen Alwyn Pais, a resident of Lakkappara Kodi, Mani village was on the way to his office on March 5, when the accused who arrived by car waylaid him, assaulted him, robbed the valuables from him and posed death threats.

The gold chain weighing five sovereigns and valued at over Rs 2 lacs was robbed from the neck of the victim and the purse that was robbed contained cash of Rs 18,000. The accused fled after indulging in the act of robbery.

A case under crime registration No. 34/2024 Sections 341, 355, 323, 504, 506, 392 R/w 34 IPC has been registered at Vitla police station in this connection.
