Mangalore: Inter-Collegiate Basketball Tourney Begins at FMMC

Mangalore, Sep 29: The inaugural of ‘RGUHS Mysore Zone Inter- Collegiate Basketball Tournament’ was held at Fr Muller’s Medical College (FMMC) basketball court on Wednesday September 28 at 8.30 am.
 
Naveen Shetty, secretary, D K District Basketball Association, was the chief guest who declared the tournament open. Speaking on the occasion, he said that as foreign universities have shown interest to tie up with Indian universities, the sports sector in India should be given priority.

He said that basketball is a good game as everyone involved gets exercise and an opportunity to show their talent. Shetty added that there is a wrong impression among youngsters that cricket is the only game and that should be removed from young minds.
 
Fr Richard Coelho, administrator, FMMC, presided over the formal programme. Dr J P Alva, dean, FMMC, Abhey Vasudev, sports secretary, FMMC, Dr Nagesh K R, sports adviser, FMMC, and Avinash, physical director, FMMC, were present.
 
The valedictory ceremony will be held on Thursday September 29.
